Description

Soft, syrupy peach slices spiced with lemon, cinnamon, and nutmeg get a crunchy oat–brown sugar topping that bakes to golden perfection, filling the kitchen with warm, autumnal aroma.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups sliced fresh peaches
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced peaches with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the peach mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Add the cold cubed butter to the oat mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it in until coarse crumbs form.
  6. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the peaches.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Allow the crisp to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use frozen peaches if fresh ones are not available; thaw and drain excess liquid first.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added richness.
  • Adjust the sugar in the filling to suit the sweetness of your peaches.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to three days.
