Description
Soft, pillowy rolls swirled with vibrant cherry jam and dotted with fresh cherries, baked golden and laced with silky vanilla icing. Each bite balances sweet fruit and tender dough for a cheerful morning treat.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110 F)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cherry jam
- 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cherries
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar; let stand until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Stir melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and egg into the yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour, stirring until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes.
- Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough and roll into a 12×18-inch rectangle; spread cherry jam evenly and sprinkle chopped cherries on top.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 even rolls; place rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×13-inch pan.
- Cover and let rolls rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes; bake at 350 F for 20–25 minutes or until golden.
- While rolls bake, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth; drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is not too hot when mixing with yeast to avoid killing the yeast.
- Frozen cherries can be used if fresh cherries are unavailable; thaw and drain excess liquid.
- Allow rolls to cool slightly before icing to prevent the glaze from becoming too thin.
- Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
